After the Fata Morgana series, born in Ginostra, the wild and beloved part of Stromboli, I shot Sunrises on the island just in front, Salina, keeping the same framing and feeling.
They are like twins and - or - like in the mirror.
Here too, as in Fata Morgana, the only visible elements are the vibration of light and water in its iridescent mutability.
The horizon, like any other real detail, is dematerialized, it is what is real behind the appearance of reality.
Sunrises should have been presented within As in the mirror, the solo exhibition at Palazzo Merulana - Rome - blocked due to the lockdown. The central chapters of that work were then chosen - and saved - by Vittorio Sgarbi who included them in his group exhibition at the Palazzo Doebbing Museum - Sutri, from June 2020 to April 2021. Between these, two large formats of Sunrises.
From his curatorship:
... while Chiara Caselli accompanies him with the clarity of her sophisticated and rarefied photographic vision, measuring herself with absolute spaces between sky and sea, in a photographic metaphor of infinity, with singular affinities with the views of Piero Guccione... Caselli's sensibility is detached... and at the same time voluptuous, clear and imperturbable.
Chiara, like the great interpreters, seeks the secret of things.
“The obscure things tend towards clarity, the bodies are exhausted in a fury of colors: these in music. To fade
it is therefore the fortune of ventures”,
Montale had anticipated.
